On a beautiful January day recently, I traveled a mere 5 minutes from my home to the grand and ornate St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church to photograph Krissy & Chris’ wedding. This was a special event for many reasons and I was very energized to spend the day among friends while capturing stunning images. The day started off rainy, but sure enough the rain departed and left blue skies with white billowy clouds, much to my pleasure. The day brimmed with touching moments, meaningful toasts and some seriously crazy dancing! I knew from Chris’ sister’s wedding (which I photographed) what to expect… and I wasn’t disappointed in the least! By the way, take a look at the r2d2 groom’s cake below… how cool is that?! Happy New Year 2012! Thank you for taking a moment to a look at a few highlighted images of 2011. This was a difficult task, as there were thousands of images to sift through, and picking just a few while showing the range of my work proved challenging. A special thank you to my wife, Allena, for helping with the selection, as I sometimes need a more objective eye. I tend to be drawn to the dramatic shots that demonstrate more skill as a photographer, and she likes to gravitate toward those that are a little more subtle and intimate. Hopefully, we have created a marriage of the two within this collection! One of the reasons I LOVE my job is because I encounter a new experience at every wedding and event I capture. Leslie & Justin | Athenaeum Wedding, Pasadena CA

A few weekends ago on an absolutely gorgeous Saturday in Pasadena, CA I photographed a touching, and very special wedding for Leslie & Justin. Although it was a perfect fall day, it ended up raining the day before AND after… so I was very pleased to wake up to blue skies and white puffy clouds!

Leslie & Justin had both their ceremony and reception at the captivating Athenaeum Club on Cal-Tech’s campus in Pasadena, CA. I always look forward to capturing wedding’s at this venue. It’s simply a combination of classic Pasadena charm, a flawless catering staff and an intimate atmosphere.

One of the reasons why I was really looking forward to this wedding was because of a very fun afternoon I spent photographing their engagement session. I walked away from that shoot feeling a great sense of connection and friendship, which is a tremendous resource to draw upon for a successful wedding shoot.

The wedding day unfolded in a casual, timely manner filled with meaningful, emotional and sublime moments. Working with the bride & groom, friends and family was a joy as everyone was eager and willing to do pretty much whatever I suggested.. cue evil laugh! ha ha. Seriously, a fun and adventurous spirit can go a long way in creating stunning and timeless images (see below).

Vanessa & Kevin | Downtown L.A. Engagement Session

This last Thursday I spent a couple hours with Vanessa & Kevin in downtown L.A. I have the privilege of photographing their Engagement Party in a couple weeks, so capturing their fun-filled Engagement Session was only natural. Their obvious chemistry and playful interactions made my job amazingly easy!

We started shooting at the incredible L.A. landmark, Disney Hall. From the contoured lines, impeccable architecture and beautiful gardens, it’s virtually impossible to not capture stunning images there. From there we journeyed to the historic Olvera St. where vibrant colors and classic Los Angeles culture abound.

Melissa & Bryan | Camarillo Ranch Wedding

On a cool, yet beautiful Saturday in September I photographed Melissa & Bryan’s Camarillo Ranch wedding in Camarillo, CA.

I was so excited to shoot this wedding: incredible location, thoughtful details and a striking couple always gets me pumped! One of the reasons why I was really excited for this wedding was because Melissa & Bryan’s engagement session simply ROCKED! That same excitement translated into incredible anticipation for this wedding. Melissa looked absolutely stunning in her bridal gown and Bryan held his own looking quite dapper in his tan, casual attire. Capturing this playful couple and their energetic friends made the day even more enjoyable. Meaningful moments, from their first glance and vow exchanges to their first dance were abundant.

On this day I had the joy of working with great friend Asgeir Bollason and a wonderful list of vendors that made this day come alive. Planner Hallie Slade with La Boheme Events made sure every vision down to the smallest detail came to fruition. Crista Nicole Artistry and Brooke Benton with Hair By Brook provided makeup & hair styling. Also, Melissa Boothe with MJB Cakes did an amazing job on the cupcake tower.

Runa & Scott ~ September 19, 2011

On a somewhat overcast Monday afternoon in September I photographed an intimate, unique and inspiring wedding at L.A.‘s Bel-Air Bay Club. This is truly one of my all-time favorite venues… A panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean, historic Bel-Air vibe and friendly staff are all apart of the appeal.

On this particular wedding, I had very little contact with the bride & groom prior, as they live in India and were planning everything remotely. That being said, I immediately felt a great connection between the two of them. Runa is simply a beautiful person and was overflowing with energy, enthusiasm and probably a few nerves too! Scott reminded me of some international Bond-like guy. Tuxedo wearing, champagne toasting, cigarette smoking and extremely gracious… I liked Scott.

This wedding had the extra flavor of infusing Runa’s Indian heritage & culture with a Southern California flair. Her ornate & colorful embellishments added a uniqueness that was inspiring to shoot. The ceremony was meaningful and intimate, with only a handful of their closest family and friends on hand to witness the exchanges. Overall it was truly a pleasure and honor to capture this wedding!

I had quite a talented cast of vendors on hand too. It was a pleasure working with planner Annette Garcia from Simply Natural Events. Tara Dowburd-Luftman from Makeup Therapy and Yen Nguyen from Ezai Floral Design were perfection and Vanilla Bake Shop provided the tasty treats. Also, as always de Bois Entertainment did an amazing job keeping the party rocking! Lastly, if you’re curious, Runa wore a stunning Sottero and Midgley gown.

Kimberly & Adam ~ September 10, 2011

This is one destination wedding that I am sure not to forget! I am thrilled when offered the opportunity to shoot events like this because they allow me to be creative in a completely new setting. I photographed Adam & Kimberly’s wedding in scenic Lake Tahoe, CA on what could not have been a more perfect weekend. The LONG journey to Tahoe was made slightly more pleasant with friend and fellow photographer Kyle Ellis along for the ride. Upon our arrival Friday evening, we knew something was distinctly different the moment the car door opened! We certainly weren’t in L.A. anymore…. After an 8 hour drive we found ourselves in a place where the air is crisp, the water clean, and the scenery absolutely breathtaking!

On Saturday, with our refreshed lungs and equipment in tow, we began the day at a beautiful home located right on the shores of Lake Tahoe. I was really looking forward to this wedding not only because of its picturesque location, but mostly because of the connection I feel with Adam & Kimberly and my desire to capture the enchantment that I knew this wedding would bring. Touching and sentimental moments during the ceremony made way into an incredibly fun and memorable celebration well into the evening. The night concluded with a dash through a row of brilliant sparklers and the ecstatic couple was whisked away on a boat across the pristine lake…. how cool is that?!

Emily & Ollie’s Engagements

On a beautiful, sun-drenched day in Los Angeles a few weeks ago, I spent the afternoon photographing Emily & Ollie’s engagement session. We started shooting at L.A’s historic Union Station where an old-world, romantic feel is around every turn. This is a fun place to start shooting, especially when it comes to overcoming any fear of “PDA’s” After immersing Emily & Ollie in the midst of interested onlookers & extras, we moved into the main terminal. It was here where some of my favorite images were captured… we had to trespass into “off limit” areas, but the results speak for themselves! From here we journeyed to Disney Hall and then finished in front of L.A.’s Bank of America Center. Enjoy a few of my faves!

Melissa & Sean ~ August 14, 2011

There’s nothing like the salty air of the Pacific Ocean and a beautiful wedding mere steps from the water on a Summer day in Southern California! Melissa & Sean’s Santa Monica wedding at the ultra-hip Casa del Mar was a joy to photograph. I had been anticipating this wedding from the first moment I met Melissa at my studio, and this excitement was further heightened after spending an afternoon with Melissa & Sean in downtown L.A. for their engagement session in the Spring. The event unfolded in a relaxed and timely manner thanks to planner Maryam Forutan from Delicate Details. The day began in Melissa’s bridal suite where I captured stunning details from her immaculate gown to an array of various, elegant embellishments that added to her chic ensemble. From there, the bride and groom had their first few emotional moments as they saw each other for the first time as soon-to-be Husband and wife (see images below).

From the Bride & Groom, to the 20+ person bridal party and guests everyone was fun, energetic and a delight to work with. I was also blessed with an amazing team for this event, which further aided in the success of this pleasant day. Special thank you to Greg Fiore, Kyle Ellis, Mathew & Lindsay Groves. Hilya & Payam’s Engagements

There’s something about Palm Trees and Sunset Blvd. that gets me excited! I spent the afternoon with Hilya & Payam in Beverly Hills, CA. a few days ago. We started shooting at the famous Greystone Mansion for all of about 2 minutes, before be kindly asked to leave, ha ha. Not to be deterred, we made our way over to Will Rogers Memorial Park and continued the fun. And everyone knows that if you’re at Will Rogers, you might as take a tour of the grand Beverly Hills Hotel.. and that’s exactly what we did! From there we capped off a fun day on Ocean Avenue in Santa Monica, CA. Please enjoy a few of my images that caught my eye..
