I really love shooting engagement sessions! Not only for the creativity factor, but more importantly because of the relationship and chemistry it helps build leading toward the wedding day. This past Sunday I spent a couple hours with Kelly & Ted at Descanso Gardens in beautiful La Canada Flintridge, CA. There’s something quite special about Descanso as it awakens from it’s “winter slumber.” Beautiful Camelias, Cherry trees and Lilacs (among other things) were on full display! Enter in a beautiful couple reflecting the excitement of their engagement and you’ve got the ingredients of a stunning session. Some of my favorite images featured the ornate and colorful Japanese Gardens. Please enjoy a few of the images below that caught me eye!

On a chilly January day in Pasadena, I walked the streets of Old Town with Laura & Chris. This was a make-up session from the end of 2012 when we had a flurry of rain storms. Possibly one of my favorite cities of all time, Pasadena is never short on little “nooks and crannies” to discover. One of those really interesting spots (first image below) was simply a back alley filled with vibrant art scenes. From that point forward it was a combination of talking, walking, shooting and encouraging…for those PDA moments that everyone loves looking at, but also can be slightly embarrassing! I mean, it’s not everyday you pick up (or get picked up) by your significant other in the middle of a crowded street, ha ha.

I hope you enjoy some of my favorites below! After spending a couple hours with Laura & Chris, I seriously can’t wait for their wedding in June at Sherwood CC.

Cheers!

Every now and then I get to spend time photographing special events at one of my all time favorite venues; The Athenaeum University Club on Cal-Tech’s campus in Pasadena, CA. Not only is the venue rich in history, such as when Albert Einstein and other Nobel Prize winners would dine on a regular basis, but truly a magnificent site to behold. Greece styled features and ornate embellishments coupled with an old Pasadena look and feel… how could you go wrong?! Please enjoy a brief video slideshow below.

So here were are, getting to the end of 2012 and I’m trying to get caught up on my blogging! This next engagement session was one of my favorites. I spent a sunny, summer’s day in Pasadena, CA last July combing the streets while capturing touching glimpses into Aaron & Lauren’s intimate relationship. This session was also very meaningful for me on a personal level as both Aaron  & Lauren are good friends and Aaron’s worked at Epic Imagery on various levels in the past. We started the adventure near the Paseo Colorado shopping area, and then simply wandered the streets in search of interesting locations, brick lined alleys and “the perfect light,” which I’m pretty sure we found! Please enjoy a few images below…

After spending 3 days in bed with a vicious flu, I awoke on November 10th with the determination of a possessed (or sick) man! I wanted to give everything I had, no matter how much or little, to capture Renee & Eric’s wedding that day. Of course having a picturesque November day, and a strikingly beautiful bride and groom definitely helps. All of the elements were in place for an amazing wedding, and I “literally” just had to hang on for the ride!!!

I started shooting with my team of Kyle & Greg at the Omni in downtown L.A. The great thing about shooting in the city is that you don’t have to venture out too far to find interesting, offbeat and unique locations. After spending time romping around the neighborhood, we departed for the St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church nearby… talk about ornate!? Wow. It’s truly an experience to walk into this church. After several ceremonial traditions, touching vows and a sealed kiss, we continued onward.

Immediately after the service, we were greeted by an immensely warm and glowing sunset. I had to work quick to take full advantage of the display, which worked out perfectly. After a little impromptu greeting with Tom & Rita (yes, that Tom/Rita) at the church, we stopped off at Disney Hall for a few minutes, witnessed a mass consumption of Patron and then it was on to the raging party… some people call a reception! All in all it was a wonderful, memorable day! I hope you enjoy a few of my favorites below.

On an action packed Fall weekend recently, I traveled out with my crew to La Quinta… the land of sun, golf and luxurious resorts. It’s in this beautiful desert oasis located at the foot of the Santa Rosa mountains, that I was fortunate enough to have photographed Jen & Bryan’s wedding. My day started out in Jen’s suite at the opulent La Quinta Resort & Spa. I captured details, fun candid moments and ultimately, her transformation from a beautiful woman into a stunning bride. From here we journeyed to a nearby church for the touching “I do’s” and then back again to the resort for some serious party-time!

One of the things I really love about shooting in the Palm Springs area and specifically a venue such as La Quinta Resort, is the old hollywood-desert charm.  Additionally, the bold colors, Spanish tiles, blue skies and palm trees (to name a few) set an impressive stage for a wedding. Please enjoy a few glimpses into a very special day!
